EuroEyes: German Champion in ICL Implantation
Dr. Jørn S. Jørgensen, CEO and founder of EuroEyes, implanted the most ICL lenses in Germany in 2017. He was honoured for this record achievement by Ralf Ohlmeier and Hans-Martin Blickensdörfer, both Staar Surgical, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of EuroEyes.
EuroEyes was the first eye laser clinic to implant toric ICL lenses.
The implantable contact lens, also known as ICL, is an additional lens made of well-tolerated plastic. In contrast to conventional contact lenses, however, the lens remains in the eye and thus permanently corrects ametropia. It is an excellent alternative for patients who are not suitable for another treatment because of a very pronounced defective vision or because the cornea is too thin, but still wish to live without glasses.
The ICL is individually adapted to the defective vision of the respective patient, sits permanently within the eye and thus constantly corrects the visual defect. The ICL is inserted between the iris and the natural eye lens. Together with the natural lens, it ensures that the light is bundled correctly on the retina and thus enables clear and sharp vision. The use of ICL is a safe, low-risk and pain-free routine procedure with a total duration of only 15 minutes.
A toric implantable contact lens is used for patients with high corneal curvature. The toric lens compensates for the corneal curvature and enables patients to live without glasses.
EuroEyes, the largest independent clinic group for eye surgery in Germany, is the first eye laser clinic worldwide to implant toric ICL lenses. In the meantime, the implantation of toric ICL lenses has established itself as a leading refractive procedure used by proven ophthalmic surgeons worldwide.
