EuroEyes will open a new clinic in Hong Kong - in one of the most expensive shopping streets in the world
Dr. Jørn S. Jørgensen (Founder and Head of the EuroEyes Group) personally traveled to Hong Kong on March 30, 2023 for the signing ceremony. The ceremony took place in an extremely cheerful atmosphere and was followed by a joint toast to the successful signing.
EuroEyes is taking over the first floor and the third floor of the prestigious building at 2 Russell Street (Causeway Bay). A state-of-the-art and stylish clinic will be built on a total area of 668 square meters – premises previously used by Prada. Russell Street, where the new clinic is opening, is often ranked as the most expensive shopping street in the world (in terms of rental prices). “We took the chance, as we think it’s a good time right now,” Dr. Jørgensen said. “I would never have got such a location three years ago. It would not have been within our budget.”
After an introductory speech and the subsequent signing of the contract, Dr. Jørgensen answered questions from the press – including the reasons for this particular choice of location, the development situation of EuroEyes’ and current plans for Greater China, and expectations for future customer volume.
“We want to be visible – without the atmosphere of a hospital”.
The new clinic location will offer the most advanced and innovative refractive treatment options to Hong Kong residents as well as visitors from mainland China.
EuroEyes has been listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 2019. In 2012, the first Chinese EuroEyes clinic opened in Shanghai. EuroEyes now has clinics in seven Chinese cities. In 2022, despite the impact of the Covid pandemic, the China business contributed 16 percent of the clinic group’s total revenue. Although the pandemic caused sales in China to plummet by more than 30 percent last year, Dr. Jørgensen remains optimistic about demand for eye surgery in the region, given that a large portion of the population struggles with myopia or presbyopia. “The mood of patients has also changed,” he explains. “People want to invest in themselves and in their health. So we are very confident in China right now.”
